WELLINGTON — Tuesday’s volleyball triangular at Wellington ended up being a best-of-five dual when Towanda-Circle had to cancel due to COVID-19 issues.

Winfield took on the host Lady Crusaders by themselves, falling 25-19, 25-19, 21-25, 25-21 in the nonleague dual.

“Hard to win a game when you have 12 missed serves and two varsity kids out sick,” WHS coach Aubree Vargas said. “We are a fighting team there is no doubt about it — with a lot of promise.”

The Lady Vikings (3-15) are scheduled to play Saturday at the Goddard Invitational to end the regular season.

The Class 4A Sub-State Tournament is set for 2 p.m. Oct. 24 at Wellington. Clearwater and Mulvane also are in the sub-state.

“It’s all about how we finish next weekend at Sub-State in Wellington. These next few weeks are crucial to our success,” Vargas said.
