The Arkansas City Lady Bulldogs were seeded 14th in the Class 5A Sub-State Tournament, falling Saturday to third-seeded Andover 26-24, 25-10 at Goddard-Eisenhower High School.

Senior Taryn Rich finished with nine kills and four digs while going 6 of 6 from the service line as one of five seniors playing in their final match for the Lady Bulldogs (13-21).

Senior Maggie Musson led the defense with six digs while going 7 of 8 from the line. Senior libero Lauren Camp pulled up five digs and went 5 of 5 from the line. Allison Moore and Claudia Dorantes also competed for the final match for Ark City.

“I am beyond proud of the year the girls had,” ACHS coach Lacy Colquhoun said. “We probably have one of the toughest leagues in the entire state from 1A-6A and I can say we competed in almost every match we played. Three of the seven AV-CTL D-II teams are heading to 5A State — Maize South, Andover and Goddard.

“This group of girls is very special to this program and me. Since taking this program over three years ago, the seniors now have been great leaders and have helped build a positive culture with setting high standards and expectations for this entire program and being great models of what a student-athlete is.”

The Winfield Lady Vikings were seeded 13th in the Class 4A Sub-State Tournament at Towanda-Circle High School.

Winfield fell to No. 4 seed Chapman 25-12, 25-15 in the first round.

The Lady Vikings (12-23) recorded the most wins in a season in recent memory under coach Aubree Vargas.

Seniors on the team included Sydney Russell, Emmah Sultz, Chloe Hoffman. Ali Tate, Paulina Gorska and Mana Komoro.

Statistics from Saturday’s match were not available at press time.

The only area school to advance out of last week’s Class 1A Regionals was Udall.

The Lady Eagles took the No. 3 seed into the Class 1A Sub-State Tournament on Saturday at Flinthills High School in Rosalia, losing to second-seeded Goessel 25-21, 20-25, 25-23 in a semifinal battle.
