Lucas Mauro and Murilo Ramas scored goals Saturday and the Cowley College men’s soccer team held on to defeat Kansas City 2-1.
The Tigers (8-1-1, 5-1-1 Jayhawk East) led 1-0 at halftime.
“We had a good performance against KCK,” Cowley coach Ruy Vaz said. “We started off strong, had purposeful ball possessions and Mauro scored a beautiful header off Hikaru Tanaka’s assist with 13 minutes left in the first half.”
Leonardo Bonelli scored the lone goal for the Blue Devils (4-5-1, 3-3).
“KCK has fast players and they were dangerous in counter attacks, but we were focused and minimized our mistakes,” Vaz said. “We didn’t lose control of the game in the second and Murilo came off the bench to score an important goal. We managed the game well until the last five minutes of the game, then we dropped our intensity and they scored.”
The Tigers play at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson County.
