The Southwestern College women’s soccer team fell 3-1 to Bethany in KCAC play on a snowy Senior night Wednesday at Richard L. Jantz Stadium.
The Lady Builders (8-6-2, 3-5-2 KCAC) honored four seniors, Rylee Simon, Tiffany Butler, Ailinn Enriquez-Chavez and Melissa Larsen, who earned a start.
The pace of play fluctuated with temperatures below freezing as both squads battled the cold and snow flurries that began to fall.
The Lady Swedes (8-8, 6-4) got on the board first on a goal by Melissa Estrada in the 16th minute. Despite giving up double-digit shot attempts in the first half and only putting up one themselves, the Lady Builders were only down one at halftime.
Overall, Bethany outshot the Lady Builders 19-10, with 15 of their 19 shots coming on goal. Southwestern finished the night with six shots on target.
Lauren McLeod and Kastel Heinold scored second-half goals for Bethany before the Lady Builders spoiled the shutout in the final minute on a strike from freshman Mackenzie Jones.
Junior Emily Sutton recorded 11 saves for Southwestern.
The Lady Builders sit in ninth place and are on the outside looking in for the conference tournament, which qualifies the top eight teams. Southwestern is tied with eighth-place Ottawa (4-12, 4-6) in winning percentage, but lost the head-to-head meeting earlier this season.
The Lady Builders are on the road for their final two matches of the season, starting at noon Saturday at Sterling.
