Cowley-Butler women’s soccer match delayed

Cowley College freshman forward Carla Ruiz takes the ball up the pitch Wednesday against Butler.

In a battle of two of the top teams in the Jayhawk Eastern, the conference-leading Cowley College women’s soccer team and No. 13-ranked Butler will have to wait a while to see who will emerge victorious.

Wednesday’s home battle was halted after a second lightning delay midway through the second half.

Because the game was suspended two minutes shy of being official, it will be replayed entirely at a date to be determined. Statistics from Wednesday will not count.

The Lady Grizzlies (8-3-1, 4-2-1 Jayhawk East) scored off a corner kick early in the second half. The Lady Tigers (8-2, 6-1) answered only eight minutes later on a goal by Leticia Belloni. The game was halted less than four minutes later.

Cowley remains home to face Kansas City at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Lady Tigers

are a half game ahead of the Lady Blue Devils (9-2, 6-2) for the top spot in the Jayhawk East.
