ROSE HILL — The Class 4A No. 5-ranked Winfield High School wrestling team brought home three medals Saturday at the two-day Rose Hill Invitational.

Senior Chance Price and junior Braden Ledford both advanced to the finals for the Vikings, who placed 10th in the 24-team tournament that included teams from all Kansas classifications.

Class 4A No. 1-ranked Chanute took the team title by 65 points over runner-up and 5A No. 7-ranked McPherson.

Price, the No. 3-ranked grappler at 152 pounds, advanced to the title bout with an 11-7 decision against 6A No. 3-ranked Izaiah Delvalle of Hutchinson. Price dropped a 15-8 decision to 4A No. 6-ranked Dawson Chavez of Andale in the title match.

Ledford, ranked third at 126 pounds, advanced to the finals with a 7-2 decision against Cassius Vanderpool of Bonner Springs, but fell 12-2 to Slade McAdam of Salina Central in the title bout.

Winfield senior Zach Phillips, ranked fourth in 4A at 220, reached the semifinals before a 5-1 loss to Kenny Fehrman of Wellington, the eventual champion ranked No. 3 in 4A with a 35-2 record. Phillips bounced back with a pin of Clay Center’s Keegan McDonald, but fell in a 5-1 decision to 5A No. 4-ranked Mason Thrash of McPherson.

The Vikings return home at 6 p.m. Thursday against El Dorado in their final AV-CTL D-III dual.
