IOLA — The Cowley College women’s soccer team opened conference play with a 5-0 victory Wednesday at Allen.
The Lady Tigers (3-1, 1-0 Jayhawk East) have scored at least five goals for the third straight game. During the three-game winning streak, they have outscored their opponents 17-1.
“Our confidence is high,” Cowley coach Roberto dos Santos said. “We see the hard work is paying off.”
Freshmen Manuela Oliveira and Carla Ruiz scored first-half goals to lead Cowley into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Sophomore Kamila Mroziewicz, and freshmen Francisca Valenzuela and Natalia Lima scored in the second half.
“We came out stronger in the second half and created opportunities,” dos Santos said.
Oliveira and Lima each finished with a goal and two assists. Freshman goalkeeper Lotta Dufva was hardly challenged while recording her second shutout of the season against the Lady Red Devils (0-4, 0-1).
The Lady Tigers play at 2 p.m. Saturday at No. 5-ranked Butler (5-1, 1-0).
“Butler is a good team. Our girls understand it will be a battle,” dos Santos said.
