Zulkoski leads trap team

Winfield High School freshman Wyatt Seacat, far right, shoots for score as sophomore Eli Samms, left of Wyatt, prepares for his turn. Other members of the squad are, from left: freshmen Kale Madrigal, Jake Jewers and junior Hunter Zulkoski.

The Vikings trap team competed Sunday in Week 3 competition at DuckCreek Trap Field.

It was an extreme challenge battling a strong north wind, with targets dipping and diving as they flew out of the trap house at 43 mph.

The team remained second behind Garden City in the USA Clay Target League, Kansas Conference Three at the end of week two.

Winfield Middle School eighth-grader Taylor Zulkoski is tied for eighth place in the female division in the state. She is tied for second place overall in Conference Three, which includes Garden City, Burlington, Chapman, Sterling and Little River.

Winfield High sophomore Eli Samms is tied for eighth and sophomore Corden Fullhart is 13th in a field of 75-plus athletes within the conference.

The Vikings compete Sunday in Week 4 at DuckCreek Trap Field, 11524 101st Road. The public is invited to attend.
