TYLER, Texas — The Southwestern College men’s soccer team picked up two wins during Labor Day weekend, defeating Southwestern Adventist and Texas College in a two-game Texas road trip.
The first win of the season for the Builders was a good one, rolling past Southwestern Adventist 11-0.
The Moundbuilders (2-1) jumped out to a 10-0 halftime lead. Eight players scored goals and six Builders recorded assists.
Sophomore Freddy Botello led the way with a hat trick, finishing with three goals and an assist in just 30 minutes of action. Senior Ram Keller added two goals.
Sophomore Rosendo Martinez scored the first goal of the game.
Game number two was a bit more of a challenge against the Steers of Texas College.
After a three-assist outing against Southwestern Adventist, senior Alex Perez secured the first two scores in a 5-2 victory against Texas College.
The Steers answered late in the first half to tie the game 2-2 at halftime.
The Builders responded nicely out of the break when senior Niyonkuru Innocent broke the tie. Two more late goals by Botello and Keller provided insurance.
The Builders remain on the road for a 7 p.m. match Sunday against the Oklahoma City Stars.
