WICHITA — Winfield High School senior Steele Morin took home second place at 170 pounds Saturday at the Bishop Carroll Invitational.

The Class 4A No. 6-ranked Vikings finished 11th in the 15-team tourney, made up primarily of 6A and 5A teams.

Morin, ranked No. 6 in 4A at 182, advanced to the title match at 170, where he dropped a 9-1 major decision to Malachi Karibo of Wichita South, the No. 1-ranked grappler in 6A at 160 pounds.

Morin advanced to the title match with a 7-3 semifinal victory against 6A No. 3-ranked Samuel Rushin of Wichita West.

Winfield senior Chance Price and junior Braden Ledford both placed third.

Price, ranked No. 3 in 4A at 152, went 2-0 in pool play, but dropped a 12-6 semifinal decision to 4A No. 2-ranked Dawson Chavez of Andale, but bounced back with a 9-3 victory against Caleb Copeland of Salina South in the third-place match.

Ledford, ranked No. 2 in 4A at 126, won his only pool-play match, but was stunned in a 3-1 loss to unranked Carson Ochoa of Salina South in the semifinals. Ledford came back with a gritty 2-0 sudden victory against 5A No. 6-ranked Alyeus Craig of Valley Center.

Seniors Cole Finney (182) and Zach Phillips (220) both went 2-2 on the day and placed sixth. Sophomore Gunther Flower (113) went 2-3 and finished seventh.
