BUHLER — A three-day delay due to inclement weather wasn’t enough to halt a losing skid for the Winfield High School boys basketball team.

The Vikings fell 63-42 at Buhler in AV-CTL D-III action Monday night.

The host Crusaders (5-2, 2-2 AV-CTL D-III) jumped out to a 16-6 first-quarter lead and extended it to 29-16 at halftime.

Aidan Harper and Jacob George scored 11 points apiece, with George draining three baskets from 3-point range. Nolan Foust chipped in eight points for the Vikings, who went 6 of 8 from the foul line.

Isaac LeShove led all scorers with 16 points for the Crusaders, who were 12 of 18 from the line. Max Alexander added 14 points, and Isaiah Hernandez matched George with three treys in a nine-point effort.

BUHLER — The Winfield High School girls basketball team had an even more sluggish start than the boys team in a 48-37 loss Monday night at Buhler.

The Lady Vikings (2-4, 1-2 AV-CTL D-III) scored just one first-quarter point, on a free throw by Isabel Jellings.

Fortunately for Winfield, the Lady Crusaders (4-3, 2-2) were almost as slow out of the gate, scoring just six points. But Buhler used a 14-9 second-quarter run to build a 20-10 halftime lead.

Emily Randall finished with 16 points, the only Winfield player to score more than five. The Lady Vikings went 6 of 9 from the line.

Alyvia Owens led all scorers with 17 points and Maggie Epp added 12 for the Lady Crusaders (4-3, 2-2), who were just 5 of 14 from the line.
