ROSALIA — The young Central of Burden High School girls basketball team managed just two field goals Tuesday in a 41-10 loss at Flinthills in the SCBL opener for both teams.

“Our girls, once again, played hard tonight,” Central coach Gregg Mettling said. “Their quickness at the guard spot and their physicality inside gave us fits at times during the game. We struggled with getting our shots to fall. The girls were able to get a lot of open looks at the basket, but we couldn’t get any points for it. Defensively, we are improving.”

Emily Long and Shay Toon tossed in baskets in the first quarter for the Lady Raiders (0-7, 0-1 SCBL), who were shut out in the second quarter and trailed 14-4 at halftime.

Morgan Cook went 4 of 9 from the foul line for the Lady Raiders, who were 4 of 13 overall from the line.

Central’s roster has no seniors, three juniors, three sophomores and seven freshmen.

Sarah Sorum scored 11 of her game-high 13 points in the first half, and Lauren Donner added 10 points for the Lady Mustangs (3-4, 1-0), who were 6 of 17 from the line.
