The Southwestern College men’s soccer team defeated Ottawa 2-1 on Saturday at HooDoo Park.

It was the first victory for the Moundbuilders (8-3, 4-1 KCAC) against Ottawa in 13 years, snapping an 11-game winless streak.

Southwestern jumped out to an early lead when junior Francis Watson took a pass from senior Ram Keller and sent it into the back of the net less than seven minutes in.

Keller made his mark on the scoreboard later in the half on an assist from senior Ivan Canales.

The Braves (1-11, 1-5) answered two minutes into the second half on a goal by Cain Scott, but Southwestern was able to control the tempo the rest of the night.

The Builders take on first-place and No. 6-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan (8-2, 5-0) at 8 p.m. Saturday in Bartlesville, Okla.
