WICHITA — The Southwestern College women’s soccer team saw an end to the 2019 season Tuesday night in a 3-1 loss at arch rival Friends.
The Lady Builders (9-7-2, 4-6-2 KCAC) hovered near the bottom of the playoff teams for much of the second half of the season, but lost the eighth and final playoff berth to Tabor (6-9-3, 4-6-2) due to the head-to-head tiebreaker. Southwestern lost to the Lady Bluejays 4-2 on Oct. 26.
The Lady Falcons (13-4, 10-2) entered the contest in the top three of the KCAC standings.
Southwestern needing a win or draw to qualify, but Jazelle Gonzalez put Friends on the board in the 14th minute and Paige Achey made it 2-0 just before halftime.
Achey scored again just out of the break, but the Lady Builders answered on a goal by former Winfield High School standout Sierra Salsman off an assist from Tiffany Butler in the 74th minute.
The Lady Falcons held off a flurry of shots in the second half.
The nine wins were the most the Lady Builders have produced in a single season since 2013.
