Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League volleyball play began Tuesday night, and both Arkansas City and Winfield fell in straight-set triangulars.
The Lady Bulldogs were host to Andover and Maize South, falling to the Lady Trojans 25-15, 25-22 and losing to the Lady Mavericks 25-11, 25-11 in Division II action in The Dawg Pound.
Maize South defeated Andover 25-11, 25-22.
Senior Taryn Rich had six kills and a block against Maize South, and senior Maggie Musson recorded eight assists. Junior Hailey Trent pulled up a team-high eight digs.
“We started off strong against Maize South for about the first 20 rallies, then we couldn’t break one of their servers as she served 12 points in a row,” ACHS coach Lacy Colquhoun said. “We got down on ourselves; there was no energy in the second half of the first set or the whole second set. We have to be better as a whole unit and not let other teams get in our heads. If we can keep playing like we know how to, we are good.”
Rich led the offense with eight kills in the loss to Andover. Musson dished out 11 assists, pulled up five digs and went 10 of 10 with a pair of aces from the service line against the Lady Trojans, while senior Lauren Camp offered a team-high six digs.
“Our match against Andover started about the same way it ended with Maize South,” Colquhoun said. “I am proud of the girls for their second-set close loss. The crowd was loud, the energy was in the gym, but again, we came up short and couldn’t finish.”
