BURDEN — The Cedar Vale/Dexter football team wrapped up an undefeated district Friday night with a 46-0 shutout of host Central of Burden in South Central Border League and 8-man I District 1 action.

The Spartans (7-1, 5-1 SCBL, 5-0 District 1) finished two games ahead of second-place Sedan (3-2) in District 1 play. The SCBL does not award a champion because of an irregular league schedule.

Cedar Vale/Dexter led just 8-0 after the first quarter. Cole Criss hauled in a 30-yard touchdown pass from Clayton Henderson, and Brogan Myers followed with a 2-point run.

The Spartans broke it open with a 24-point second quarter to lead 32-0 at halftime.

Myers scored on TD runs of 24 and 70, and Henderson found Arik Artherton on an 8-yard TD pass hear the end of the first half.

Devin Catlin became the fourth CVD player to score when he hauled in a 24-yard TD pass from Criss to open the second half.

Elijah Henderson ended the game due to the mercy rule when he returned an interception 18 yards for a pick-6.

Henderson was a perfect 5-of-5 passing for 91 yards, with the two TDs and no interceptions. Catlin caught three passes for 67 yards.

Myers finished with 174 yards on 15 carries. Criss finished with 61 total yards from passing, receiving and rushing.

Artherton led the defense with seven solo and nine assisted tackles.

Statistics for the Raiders (2-6, 1-6, 2-3) were not reported.

As the district champion, the Spartans play host to a Week 9 playoff game against SCBL foe Caldwell (5-3) at 7 p.m. Thursday in Dexter. Cedar Vale/Dexter’s only loss this season was a 56-28 setback on Sept. 20 in Caldwell.

Central, the third-place finisher in District 1 plays at 7 p.m. Thursday at Medicine Lodge (4-4), the third-place finisher in 8-man I District 2.

Oxford 46, Udall 22

OXFORD — Arch rivals Udall and Oxford met for the final regular-season game Friday with little to play for from a postseason standpoint, with the host Wildcats pulling away in the second half for a 46-22 victory in South Central Border League and 8-man I District 2 action.

“We played our worst game of the year, lost our composure, and got beat by a team that wanted it more,” Udall coach Wyatt Williams said.

The two teams finished fifth and sixth in the district, separated only by a five-point differential.

The Eagles (3-5, 1-4) play a consolation game at 7 p.m. Thursday at Flinthills, while the Wildcats (3-5, 1-4) travel to Oswego.

Udall held a 14-12 halftime lead thanks to a pair of extra points by senior Trevor Whiteman. But the Eagles were shut out the rest of the way until Jayce Rieth scored on an 11-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Josh Smith opened the scoring for Oxford with a 3-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Ty Carter scored from 19 yards out in the second quarter.

Carter threw a pair of third-quarter touchdown passes to Andrew Hills as the Wildcats began to pull away. Carter tacked on two more shot TD runs, finishing with three touchdown runs and two passing TDs. Smith added a fourth-quarter TD run, as well.

Sophomore Trent Whiteman finished 11-of-29 passing for 133 yards for the Eagles, hitting Trevor Whiteman on a 34-yard touchdown pass near the end of the first half. Trevor Whiteman caught all 11 passes from his younger brother.
