JOPLIN, Mo — With the Region VI/Jayhawk Conference Indoor Championships less than two weeks away, the Cowley College men’s and women’s track and field teams competed Friday and Saturday at the Missouri Southern Lion Invitational.

Neither squad had any NJCAA National qualifiers, but still managed some good performances.

“The kids competed well with this being the last week of really hard workouts leading up to region and nationals,” Cowley coach Mark Phillips said.

Kolby Caster led the Cowley men by placing fourth in the pole vault, while Karina Maravillas led the Lady Tigers by finishing fifth in the 800-meter run.

The Tigers are slated to compete this Friday and Saturday at the Pittsburg State Gorilla Classic.

“We hope to see a few more national qualifiers,” Phillips said.
