The Southwestern College women’s soccer team remained undefeated in KCAC play Wednesday with a 2-0 shutout of Saint Mary.
The Lady Builders (7-1-2, 2-0-2 KCAC) were the aggressors from start to finish, putting up 22 shots while holding the Lady Spires (3-3-2, 1-1-2) to just five.
Despite the relentless pressure, Southwestern was unable to get into the scoring column in the first 45 minutes and the teams took a scoreless tie into the locker room at halftime.
The aggressive attack by the Lady Builders paid off when senior Tiffany Butler was tripped up inside the box just three minutes into the second half, setting up a penalty kick. Butler sent the kick into the net for a 1-0 lead and her third goal of the season.
Freshman Hailey Rouse made it 2-0 just 10 minutes later. Rouse has now scored or assisted on at least one goal in seven of 11 matches this season.
Junior Emily Sutton recorded her sixth shutout on the season with four saves. She remains one of the top goalkeepers in the NAIA, sitting at No. 12 in the nation in goals against per game (0.450).
The Lady Builders play at 4:30 p.m. Saturday against Ottawa at Richard L. Jantz Stadium.
