Arkansas City High School pitcher Garrett VanDeventer, a recent grad who earned Pitcher of the Year honors in AV-CTL D-II voting, was named to the All-State Class 5A first team in voting by baseball coaches.

VanDeventer compiled a 4-3 record with a 1.54 ERA in leading the Bulldogs to the KSHSAA Class 5A State Tournament. He appeared in nine games, eight starts, with one complete game and two shutouts. VanDeventer gave up just 39 hits and 10 walks in 50 innings, finishing with 61 strikeouts.

VanDeventer, who went 8-0 with a 1.17 ERA as a junior in helping the Bulldogs to the Class 4A D-I State title, tossed a complete-game six-hitter in the first round of this year’s 5A State tourney, but lost a heartbreaking 1-0 decision to Hunter Hesseltine of Topeka-Seaman, which went on to capture the 5A State title.

Winfield junior Conner Woods, an AV-CTL D-III first-team selection, was named to the All-State second team in Class 4A.

Woods compiled a 6-3 record and 2.09 ERA, leading Division III with 64 strikeouts in 47 innings while issuing just 11 walks. He was 5-0 with a 1.12 ERA in league competition, handing league champion Buhler its only loss of the season.

Teammate KC Crandall, who also will enter his senior year in the fall at WHS, earned honorable mention All-State.

Crandall batted .357 with 16 runs and six RBI, with 13 stolen bases for the Vikings.

Cedar Vale/Dexter senior Braden Snyder and junior Devin Catlin earned All-State second-team honors in Class 2-1A.
