KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The No. 10-ranked Cowley College volleyball team ran its winning streak to 17 in a row Wednesday with a 25-14, 25-22, 25-21 win at Kansas City.
The Lady Tigers (20-2, 4-1 Jayhawk East) have dropped only seven sets during the streak.
“We are getting better every day,” said Cowley coach Steven Gream, who earned his 350th career win in 15 years of coaching collegiate volleyball. “Our offense is causing problems and our defense has been stepping up.”
The victory against the Lady Blue Devils (11-8, 2-4) marked the 10th time in the past 11 matches that Cowley won in straight sets.
Outside hitters Iva Halacheva (12 kills) and Elina Zlateva (11) led the offense, while sophomore setter Caroline Foster, who was named the KJCCC Setter of the Week each of the past three weeks, finished with 36 assists.
“Caroline did an excellent job of distributing the ball and giving us the balanced attack that we wanted,” Gream said.
The Lady Tigers compete today and Saturday at the Ramada Volleyball Classic in Columbus, Neb. Cowley faces Northeast Community College at 3 p.m. and North Platte at 7 p.m. today, and take on Bismarck State at 1 p.m. and Southwestern Iowa at 3 p.m. Saturday.
