HESSTON — A grueling two days of golf produced two team medals for the Winfield Lady Vikings.

After winning the team title Thursday at the Arkansas City/Winfield Invitational, the Lady Vikings were up early Friday to compete in the Buhler Invitational at Hesston Golf Course, finishing in second place.

Winfield shot a team 371, just four strokes behind the host Lady Crusaders and one stroke ahead of Andover Central.

“Our girls had a busy week, but had another good day,” WHS coach Dave Bertholf said. “Playing back-to-back days will be good preparation for the State two-day tournament if we qualify.”

Elly Bertholf fired an 89 to place sixth in a scorecard playoff. Bertholf paired near-even rounds of 44 and 45.

Chaney Littell also earned a top-10 medal with a 92. Littell, who finished in a three-way tie for eighth, opened with a 45 before a 47 on the back nine.

Celine Mendoza just missed earning an individual medal, pairing a 45 with a 48 to finish 12th after a scorecard playoff.

Kenzie Graham was 17th with a 97, but shaved nine strokes off on the back side after opening with a 53. Dalin Bartel was 33rd, needing seven more strokes after a first-round 48. Savanna Nickum was 49th with even rounds of 56.

“This is the first tournament we have beat Andale this year, so we were excited about that,” Coach Bertholf said. “However, Buhler beat us. State is at Hesston, so this was good practice.”
