Oxford High School, which was ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 2-1A during part of the baseball season, led area schools with six athletes on the Walter Johnson League All-League team.
The Cedar Vale/Dexter Spartans placed five players on the team, voted by WJL coaches.
Udall placed two players on the team, while Central of Burden saw two players receive honorable mention.
South Haven does not have a baseball program.
Oxford and Cedar Vale had a spirited rivalry throughout the season.
The Wildcats swept a March 29 doubleheader, narrowly taking the opener 7-6 before erupting for a 17-2 victory in the nightcap.
The Spartans earned a measure of revenge with an 8-1 triumph against Oxford on May 7 in the Walter Johnson League Tournament.
Oxford won a share of the WJL regular-season title, finishing in a tie with West Elk with 11-3 records. The Wildcats ended the season with a 17-6 record. They held the No. 1 seed at the Class 2-1A Udall Regional, but were upset by second-seeded Leon-Bluestem in the championship game.
The Spartans finished 16-6, 10-4 in league play, one game behind Oxford and West Elk. Cedar Vale/Dexter held the No. 2 seed in the 2-1A West Elk Regional, but fell to the top-seeded Patriots 7-4 in the title game.
Camren Clements and Dakota Mitchell, both recent graduates at Oxford, were named to the first team as pitchers.
Clements compiled a 6-2 record and 1.69 earned-run average. He tied for the team lead with 11 appearances, including a team-high nine starts. He allowed nine earned runs on 29 hits and walked just six batters in 37 1/3 innings, and was second on the team with 55 strikeouts.
Clements batted .380 (27 for 71) at the plate, with 22 runs and a team-high 34 RBI. His 27 hits also led the squad. He was successful on 26 of 27 stolen-base attempts.
Mitchell went 4-1 with a 2.02 ERA in eight appearances, including four starts. He tossed a team-high 41 2/3 innings, giving up 12 earned runs on 25 hits. He struck out 63 and walked just five.
Mitchell batted .362 (25 for 69) with a team-high 33 runs to go with 17 RBI. He drew team-highs with 17 walks and nine times hit by pitches, and struck out just six times. His .986 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage) was second among starters. Mitchell also was 29 for 30 in stolen-base attempts, tops on the squad.
The WJL sorted all-league players by pitchers, catchers and position players.
Cal Shimkus and Dalton Silhan, two more recent grads at Oxford, were named to the first team as position players.
Shimkus led the Wildcats with a .487 average (38 for 78 — both team highs) and was second on the squad with 30 runs and 38 RBI. He struck out just two times all season and led the team with a 1.138 OPS. Shimkus stole 14 bases without being caught.
Shimkus compiled a 2-1 record and 3.33 ERA in 11 appearances, including one start. He allowed 10 earned runs on 18 hits and seven walks, and struck out 23 in 21 innings.
Silhan batted .338 (23 for 68) with 25 runs and 18 RBI. He was a perfect 23 for 23 in stolen-base attempts.
Silhan compiled a 4-2 record with one save and a 3.28 ERA in 11 appearances, five starts. He allowed 15 earned runs on 23 hits and 28 walks, and struck out 51 in 32 innings.
Dexter High School senior Javen Killman, one of just four seniors on the Cedar Vale/Dexter Spartans, was named to the all-league first team as a pitcher.
Killman led the Spartans pitching staff with a 5-1 record and 1.51 ERA. He tossed a team-high 41 2/3 innings, giving up nine earned runs on 21 hits and 20 walks, with 61 strikeouts.
Killman also led the team in batting average (.410) and hits (25 for 61). He scored 23 runs and drove in 17, with four doubles, a triple and a home run. He struck out just four times and led the starters with a 1.077 OPS.
Cedar Vale junior Jasper Young and Dexter sophomore Devin Catlin were first-team position platers.
Young hit .328 (20 for 61) with 22 runs and a team-high 24 RBI. He also led the squad in extra-base hits with six doubles, three triples and a home run for a 1.012 OPS and a team-high .573 slugging percentage.
Catlin batted .328 (21 for 64) with a team-high 26 runs and 17 RBI. He rapped four doubles and two triples.
Udall High School junior Joshua Fielder also was a first-team position player.
Fielder led the Eagles in most offensive categories, including batting average (.500), at-bats (38), runs (11), hits (19), on-base percentage (.604), slugging (.605) and OPS (1.209).
Oxford grads Henry Carter and Neil Terry received honorable mention.
Carter batted .276 (16 for 58) with 19 runs and 10 RBI and was successful in all 12 stolen-base attempts.
Terry, who served as the primary catcher, hit .315 (23 for 73) with 26 runs and 16 RBI. He also hit Oxford’s only home run. Terry drew 15 walks and struck out just six times, and was 8 for 8 in base stealing.
Junior Braden Snyder and sophomore Arik Artherton earned honorable mention for cedar Vale/Dexter.
Snyder batted .339 (20 for 59) with 17 runs and 19 RBI.
Artherton hit .316 (18 for 570 with 15 runs and 16 RBI.
Udall sophomore catcher Kyler Roberts also earned honorable mention.
Roberts batted .389 (14 for 36) with a .907 OPS.
Central of Burden seniors Trey Hamilton and Erasmo Vales-Fisher also received honorable mention.
Vales-Fisher led the Raiders with a .394 average (13 for 33). Hamilton hit .179 (5 for 28).
