PARSONS — The No. 7-ranked Cowley College volleyball team swept Labette 25-19, 25-19, 25-17 on Wednesday in Jayhawk East play.
The Lady Tigers (30-4, 6-3 Jayhawk East) are in a three-way tie for third place in the standings.
“We did a good job of keeping the pressure on them with our serving, balanced attack and defense,” Cowley coach Steven Gream said. “This kept them out of rhythm to where they couldn’t sustain extended rallies and allowed us to pull away in each set.”
Elina Zlateva led the Lady Tigers with 11 kills, while Hannah Vanriette added 10. Caitie Lockett chipped in six kills, while Cora Vineyard and Stephanie Bray added five each against the Lady Cardinals (2-30, 0-9).
The Lady Tigers return home at 6:30 p.m. today to play Johnson County (24-8, 6-3) in their final conference and home match of the season on Sophomore night.
“This is a rivalry match, with the vast history between these two teams and this year both teams are playing for seeding in the district tournament,” Gream said. “We will be prepared for a hard fought match with both teams battling strong throughout the match.”
