BURDEN — The Udall High School softball team is on a mission.
The Lady Eagles rolled to their 13th consecutive victory Friday by defeating South Haven 9-2 in the championship game of the South Central Border League Tournament at Central of Burden Junior-Senior High School.
The baseball and softball tourneys were moved to Burden due to field conditions at the Broadway Recreation Complex in Winfield.
Udall sophomore Emma Enderud tossed a complete-game four-hitter in the title game. Enderud (14-5) struck out 11 and walked three.
The Lady Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when back-to-back Udall errors led to a pair of unearned runs.
Udall took a run back in the bottom half of the inning on singles by Enderud and Madison Loos.
The Lady Eagles took the lead for good with a two-run third inning on singles by Enderud, Aubrey Eilers and Laurynn Jones.
Jones added some insurance with a two-run home run in Udall’s four-run fifth inning. Jones finished 3 for 4 with five RBI.
Enderud was a perfect 2 for 2 with two walks and four runs, and has reached base in 22 consecutive at-bats. Eilers was 2 for 3 with a double, and Loos finished 3 for 3.
Alyssa Bridges went 2 for 2 for the Lady Cardinals, but had to leave the game when she suffered a broken finger when a pitch caught her on the bat.
South Haven pitcher Cynae Wiley suffered a pulled quad and might miss the playoffs.
“Cynae’s been working with three others on their pitching,” SHHS coach Twaila Wiley said.
“Macey Pond, freshman, is who I threw the last two innings against Udall. Also, Madison Smith and Adriana Hoplin, sophomores, may give it a go, too.”
The tourney was a precursor to the Class 2-1A Regional Tournament, which was slated to begin Monday at Udall and at Cedar Vale High School.
Flinthills defeated Cedar Vale/Dexter 17-6 in the third-place game. Sedan topped Central of Burden 12-1 for fifth. The seventh-place game between Oxford and West Elk was canceled.
