DURANT, Okla. — The No. 5-ranked Cowley College women’s tennis team did not drop a match Saturday in a 9-0 win against Southeastern Oklahoma State.

The No. 4-ranked Cowley men won 5-4.

It was the second match in a row for the Tigers against an NCAA Division II school.

The Lady Tigers (3-0) were pushed to three sets in just two singles matches.

“The Lady Tigers played very solid tennis again on Saturday and they made it look easy against a tough NCAA Division II program,” Cowley coach Manuel Raga said.

The Cowley men won four of six singles matches to help them overcome dropping two of three doubles matches.

“This is a huge win for us because the guys played really hard for every point and even though we started slow in doubles, they kept believing that we were able to win the match,” Raga said. “I am very proud to see them compete at that level and most important, get a win against a very tough Division II program.”

Cowley freshmen Javier Gonzalez and Carlos Castillo both came back from losing the first set and won in the third set super-tiebreaker, which turned the tables.

The Tigers play at 2 p.m. Thursday at Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas. The Lady Tigers remain in Texas to take part Friday and Saturday in the Super Bash Tournament in Plano, Texas.

“I am looking forward to this weekend to face some good NJCAA schools in Texas,” Raga said.
