WICHITA — The Southwestern College women’s basketball team has been projected to finish 11th in the KCAC, as voted on by both media members and KCAC coaches.
Head coach Whitney Corley took the podium at Crestview Country Club to address members of the media.
The Lady Builders were just 4-25 last season, but return a huge chunk of the contributions from a year ago, including two double-digit scorers in seniors Jazmyne Laskey and Marissa Evans.
Corley emphasized the return of her senior group. She returns six players, many who have been with the program for multiple years.
“We are bringing back an outstanding senior class,” Corley said. “They have all been around all summer and the work they have put in is really showing.”
The Lady Builders also welcome in a group of transfers, some of who already have spent seasons with other KCAC schools and have experienced play at the conference level.
Corley said the newcomers are ready to make immediate contributions and are going to be big additions to the group, along with a couple of players who return from season-ending injuries a year ago.
“We’ve added shooting and depth to go along with the athleticism this team already holds,” Corley said.
Corley enters her fifth season and brings back third-year assistant Chris Burks.
The Lady Builders open the 2019-20 campaign on Oct. 24 at Central Christian in McPherson.
