WELLINGTON — Winfield High School senior Camilo Tarin captured the boys title Saturday at the Wellington Invitational cross country meet at Hargis Creek Watershed.

The Vikings swept the team titles.

Winfield placed four runners in the top eight in the boys meet and finished with 41 points, six better than runner-up Goddard-Eisenhower. Arkansas City was third (68) among seven full and five partial teams.

The Lady Vikings took spots 3-4-5 and scored 37 points, one point ahead of Eisenhower.

Tarin finished the 5K course in 17 minutes, 26.21 seconds, more than three seconds ahead of runner-up Jacob Fawson of Eisenhower (17:29.52) in the field of 65 competitors.

Ark City junior Chase Mathews finished third in 17:38.3. Freshman teammate Brandon Klotz cracked the top 10 (18:56.62).

Winfield senior Craig LaBrue was fourth in 17:47.24, two spots ahead of sophomore teammate Corban Priest (18:21.87). Sophomore Andru Owens finished eighth (18:32.46).

Sophomore Kayli Myers recorded the top finish for the Lady Vikings, placing third in 4:17.99. Valley Center’s Hannah Grover won the 5K meet in 20:40.46 among 45 competitors.

Right behind Myers were senior Elly Bertholf in 22:32.87 and sophomore Gracelynn Benavides in 22:55.05.

Ark City freshman Owen Seaton finished 13th (19:17.74) in the boys race, five spots higher than fellow frosh Gabriel Onelio (19:39.52).

WHS senior Sophia Sisk (23:35.52) and freshman Skylar Flower (23:36.46) also ran in a pack, placing 12th and 13th, respectively.

ACHS junior Amelia Onelio just missed the top 20, placing 21st. Senior Lydia Nagomi Watanabe finished 29th for the Lady Bulldogs.

Freshmen Brooke Brogan (24th) and Lauryn Turner (27th) also ran for the Lady Vikings.

Other placers for the WHS boys were sophomore Mark Thompson (25th), freshman Jaden Brown (28th) and senior Joey Bowlby (34th).

Sophomore Manuel Leos (32nd) also competed for the Bulldogs.

Freshman Justin Levi McIntire placed 63rd as the lone representative for the Cedar Vale/Dexter boys. Sophomore Jacey McIntire (35th) and junior Justice Casebolt (38th) represented the Lady Spartans.
