IOLA — The No. 11-ranked Cowley College volleyball team took to the road Monday, picking up a 23-25, 25-10, 25-22, 25-13 at Allen.
The Lady Tigers (7-2, 1-1 Jayhawk East) recorded their fourth straight win with an important home match tonight against unbeaten Cloud County looming.
“This was Allen’s first home match and they packed the gym to bring a lot of energy,” Cowley coach Steven Gream said. “They used that energy in the opening set and throughout the match to put us on our heels. We battled through some tough stretches and weathered the storm to come out with the win.”
Sophomore outside hitter Elina Zlateva led Cowley unofficially with 15 kills and Kadie Smith was key to the victory of the third set.
“Elina had a big game for us with her attack and our serving carried the way for us, especially Kadie Smith, who helped lead our charge late in the third set when we were down by four points,” Gream said.
Sammie Alexander led the Lady Red Devils (9-6, 1-1) with 10 kills.
No. 13-ranked Cloud County (10-0, 1-0) has one of the top offenses in the nation entering the 6:30 p.m. match.
“They are playing with a great amount of confidence and will be a tough opponent on Wednesday night,” Gream said.
