Spartans top Central 42-20

Cedar Vale/Dexter senior quarterback Cole Criss pulls away from Central of Burden junior Tony Brogan during Saturday afternoon’s South Central Border League battle at Dexter High School.

DEXTER — The Cedar Vale/Dexter football team piled up 467 yards Saturday in a 42-20 victory against Central of Burden in South Central Border League action.

The game was moved to Saturday due to unplayable field conditions Friday night at Dexter High School.

Brogan Myers racked up 191 yards on 11 carries, and hauled in a 40-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Cole Criss to start the scoring.

Criss threw four TD passes, three to Si Killman.

“I was proud of our kids for grinding it out and finding a way to win,” CVD coach K.B. Criss said. “It is important we focus on just getting better every day — we have a long way to go.”

The Spartans (2-0, 2-0 SCBL) led 16-0 after the first quarter and 36-14 at halftime.

“Happy our seniors were able to win on Senior Day in Dexter,” Criss said. “It is always challenging to play Central, they are well-coached and hard-working kids that never give. I have a lot of respect for (Central coach) Anthony (Blair).”

Criss was 8-of-12 passing for 186 yards, with one interception. Killman hauled in four passes for 68 yards, and also scored on a 5-yard TD run in the first quarter.

Killman’s three touchdown catches all came in the second quarter.

Criss added a 5-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

The Raiders (0-2, 0-2) finished with 250 total yards. No other information was available.

Central plays this Friday at Sedan. The Spartans play Udall on Senior Night for Cedar Vale High.
