Sixteen members and six guests attended the business meeting of the Winfield Soroptimist club on  June 17 at the Winfield American Legion.

Guests included Kayla Smith and Sadie and Millie, Mary Leeper and guest speakers Kent Tamsen, director of technology and pperations for USD 465, and architect Troy Hertel.

Sign-up sheets for workers/snacks for the Duck Jam on June 23 were distributed and for attendees for the club’s installation and awards banquet to be held on June 28.

The club’s 50/50 Lucky Duck drawing was won by Sheryl Clower.

The June Yard-of-the-Month has been awarded to Greg and Lisa Woods.

Seven members will be attending the Ark City Soroptimist club installation and awards banquet to be held on June 27.

Several members have volunteered to help with the city’s Fourth of July celebration at the Winfield Fairgrounds.

The two guests speakers — Mr. Tamsen and Hertel — spoke on the “needs of USD 465.” Some of the needs include tornado shelters, controlled entries and aging buildings. They presented a couple of major solutions. There are approximately 2,300 students in the district. A questionnaire was available.

The next business meeting will be July 1, and the next board meeting will be June 29.  Both begin at noon at the Winfield American Legion.
