Local residents are raising funds to help the family of a boy who was injured in a freak accident while attending the Central of Burden after prom party last month.

Lane Wilt, a junior at Central of Burden High School, broke several vertebrae in his neck while participating in one of the after prom activities at the high school gymnasium in the early morning of April 25, according to a Paypal fundraising page set up to help the family.

Wilt was airlifted from the school to a Wichita hospital for treatment.

A Paypal account has been set up by supporters to help the Wilt family with medical and other related expenses. So far, more than $2,500 has been raised, with a goal of $20,000.

Other fundraisers are ongoing as well. Central USD 462 is selling T-shirts for $15 each (sizes S-XL, 2 XL and 3 XL cost extra), as well as buttons and bracelets, with all proceeds going to the Wilt Family. Ma’s Cafe in Burden is donating all cash tips received this week to the family as well.

Wilt is the son of Roger and Shannon Wilt.
