Picture contest clicking in Arkansas City

Get your cameras out and get ready to take some pictures.

The Arkansas City Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a special “Picture Ark City 2021” photo contest.

The contest began on April 1 and will run through the end of the month.

Chelsea Chattam, administrative assistant for the chamber, said Tuesday that the main focus of the contest is to motivate people to get out and explore the community, to have fun and make some memories.

A new theme will be posted on the chamber’s Facebook page at 9 a.m. each day. Local residents are encouraged to take photos reflecting that topic and then submit them to the chamber.

“Each day is a different thing,” she said. “Like, today is “dine,” so they would take pictures of someplace they went to eat around town.”

Chattam said participants can submit their photos through Instagram or Facebook, by tagging the Arkansas City Chamber with the hashtag, #PictureArkCity2021. A drawing for a gift card to a local business will be held each Friday. Participants can enter as many photos as they want, which will give them a better chance of winning.

“So if you do a whole week, you get seven entries,” she said.

The contest started Thursday, but Chattam said very few entries were received over the weekend. More people are starting to participate now that Easter is over.

Chattam said the chamber will post a wide range of topics. The list includes school, animals, nature, art, old, new and many other subjects.

“Just completely different,” she said. “The last one is downtown.”

Contest winners will be posted on the chamber’s Facebook page each Friday.
