Party Barn offers rural wedding setting

Jan Geringer, owner of Redbud Party Barn in Douglass, takes time to admire her dahlias growing with other beautiful flowers in the gardens surrounding the venue.

It was the movie “White Christmas” that partly inspired Jan Geringer to host weddings at Redbud Party Barn.

Surrounded by lush gardens, woods and spacious countryside views, this unique barn is at 11255 SW 200th St., in Douglass.

“I always loved ‘White Christmas,’ especially at the end of the movie where the inn is filled with guests and the doors open to the beautiful snowfall,” Geringer said. “And I have always loved vintage. When I’m not at the barn hosting a wedding, I love to explore antique stores.”

Recently, Geringer and her staff hosted an open house. Despite chilly temperatures, many guests were present, marveling at the elaborate decorations with a vintage travel theme.

Inside the dining area, tables were adorned with old maps, postcards, vintage cameras, clocks and milk-glass vases.

Geringer described the atmosphere, color and displays of the dining area like one might describe a wedding dress.

“We used beige tablecloths with an ivory lace overlay and incorporated dusty blues, pale pinks and light sage greens in our flowers and napkins,” she said.

To further emphasize the mood, a number of vintage suitcases had been placed around the barn.

On the outside of the property are additional attractions. A magnificent stone altar is situated in a woody area where most weddings are performed. The sight and aroma of a variety of flowers dancing in the breeze casts a spell.

“My son, who has an undergraduate degree in horticulture, does all my grounds-keeping,” she said.

Geringer started her business in 2012, when her youngest daughter married. Approximately 300 people attended the reception at the barn.

“We added the outdoor pavilion prior to her wedding, and that is where she also had her dance,” Geringer added.

The staff of about six to eight women work for Geringer whenever they cater a wedding.

“We have a lot of fun when we cater, and these ladies really do a great job,” Geringer said.

The staff caters about two-thirds of the weddings. Outside caters are allowed, but are required to be licensed.

“We would also like to branch out and offer corporate and large family events,” Geringer said.

Guest capacity is usually up to 275 people. Attendees can enjoy a buffet-style setup where five menus are offered: barbecue, Mexican fiesta, Tuscan buffet, traditional buffet and “Garden Elegance.”

Geringer and her staff can arrange to customize a menu for their guests.

The average rental fee is usually $2,650 for a ceremony and reception. A three-package special is “very popular.”

“The couples can come out on Friday to decorate and have their rehearsal dinner,” she said. “They have all day Saturday to get ready, then have the ceremony and reception.”

The bridal couple and their families can stay in a two-bedroom cabin with a small kitchen on the barn’s property.
