Eighteen members and one guest attended the Winfield Soroptimist business meeting on Jan. 20 at the Winfield American Legion.
Deb Clark, director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cowley County, presented the program. She is encouraging anyone to become a mentor, whether it be community-based or site-based. To volunteer, visit their website at www.kansasbigs.org/be-a-big.
Dee Ledy presented the educational program on the international Dream Big program. They are trying to raise $15 million and currently have $4 million. This campaign began in 2021 and is a 10-year program. This program covers the Live Your Dream awards, which provide education and training awards to women, and the Dream It, Be It awards, which provide career support for girls. Donna Thompson won a gift for National Coffee Day.
The club will serve waffles on Feb. 12 for Galentine’s Day at Ladybird Brewery. The public is invited.
Ruth Parman submitted an entry on the club’s behalf to the USD/FHLB Topeka “Do Good Day” promotion for the club’s Blessing Box. The Winfield club won $150.
The club’s Lucky Duck 50/50 drawing was won by Judy Kunkel.
The next board meeting will be Feb. 1 and the next business meeting will be Feb. 3. Both meetings begin at noon at the Winfield American Legion.
