The Winfield Middle School Builders Club is excited for the 2021-22 school year, and they wanted to update the community about the program, building partnerships and some needs.

The Kiwanis Builders Club is one of the largest service organizations in the world with more than 1,500 Builders Clubs in middle schools, including the one in Winfield. Each club is an independent entity, designed to meet the needs of the community it serves.

The program offers students an opportunity to become engaged members of the community and is designed to instill in them desire for a lifelong journey of service and leadership. The group’s goals include bettering oneself, the school, the community and the nation; to help those in need and to encourage the fellowship of all humankind.

This year the club will organize into teams to better meet the needs of the community. To start the year, teams will focus on the following issues: veterans, elderly, kids in need, the food pantry, emergency management (support for police, fire and EMS crews) healthcare workers and the Humane Society. One team will build partnerships with local businesses to help and support the Builders Club on its journey.

As a branch of Kiwanis International, Builders Club members are part of a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.

Anyone who would like to donate to help meet their community’s needs, partner with them on a project, or have other ideas, email sponsors Michelle Russell at michellerussell@usd465.com, or Allison Homan at allisonhoman@usd465.com.

“Thank you for helping our children to learn and realize one kind act can change our community and our world,” Russell said.
