The Cowley College Quiz Bowl teams found wins hard to come by as one of only four schools from Kansas to take part in the National Academic Quiz Tournament Community College Sectional. However, the team did have some impressive individual performances.

Going up against teams from Alabama, Florida, Ohio, Oklahoma, Illinois and Texas, along with three other schools from Kansas, the tournament was a lot like playing teams at nationals.

Santa Fe College, from Gainesville, Fla., won Pool A with a 6-0 record. Chipola College, from Marianna, Fla., won Pool B, while Lake Land College from Mattoon, Ill., went 7-0 and won Pool C.

Cowley’s “A” team placed seventh out of eight teams in Pool C, while Cowley’s “B” team finished seventh in Pool B.

The top 16 teams at the sectional will be invited to compete at the national tournament.

Aidan Sanders led the Cowley “B” team by placing 20th. Cowley’s Jacob Denholm and KayLynn Prough placed eighth and 16th, respectively in Pool C.

“Aidan Sanders is gaining confidence and made great improvement from previous tournaments,” Cowley Quiz Bowl sponsor Dianne Flickinger said. “Jacob Denholm and KayLynn Prough also played well. It wasn’t our best statistical showing compared to the other teams, but we had fun being together and celebrating KayLynn’s birthday.”
