Challenging Words

After Winfield Middle School seventh-grader Noel Sanborn, left, spelled analogize and photosynthesis correctly, he was declared the winner of the 2021 Winfield Spelling Bee on Monday. Others placing in the event were middle-schoolers Cambria McKinzie, eighth grade, second place; Paul Do, eighth grade, third place; Ava Torrance, eighth grade, fourth place; Dashiell Scaggs, sixth grade, first alternate; and Ian Capps, eighth  grade, second alternate.

Other contestants came from Whittier, Country View, Lowell, Irving and Holy Name.

Some of the challenging words: vengeance, adjudicate, agriculture, enfranchise, and conundrum.

The top four spellers will represent Winfield in the Cowley County Spelling  Bee in January.
