ABOVE: A horse-drawn carriage makes its way Tuesday night down Summit Street in Arkansas City as part of Christmas in the City festivities. Carriage rides also will be available on Dec. 4 as part of the Santa Saturday celebration. Rides are $2 or free with the donation of two canned food items.

RIGHT: The Shelman family portraying Santa, his wife and elf Ebenezer Sugarcane took time from their busy schedule to stroll through downtown Arkansas City. The trio visited stores, posed for photos and visited with children during Tuesday’s Christmas in the City event.

FAR RIGHT: Arkansas City kicked off Christmas in the City with Thankful Tuesday. The event included lighting of the community tree, downtown decorations and carriage rides. Several stores opened late to welcome shoppers.
