Walk or Ride Day

Whittier Elementary School students cross Mound Street from Cherry Street Park Wednesday morning during National Walk or Ride to School Day, a yearly event held at the school. Winfield fire department and police officers, Cowley County sheriff’s deputies and Winfield High School athletes joined the group. Watching the kids crossing is Winfield Police Chief Robbie DeLong.

In celebration of homecoming week, ‘Out of this World,’ Whittier has different themes every day. Wednesday’s theme was ‘cosmic,’ so principal Marcia McIntire went to school as a Cosmic Brownie and celebrated the day during the walk to school. Secretary Kim Randall created the costume.
