The Winfield Recreation Commission has received two grants totaling $46,746 to install playground equipment at the Joe Thornton Recreation Center.

The rec commission received the BCBSKS Pathways Grant for $25,546 and a grant from GameTime-A PlayCore Company for $21,200.

Installation will begin in November or December.

The playground, on the northeast side of the rec center, will be ADA accessible, with a design focus on active and inclusive play for children ages 5 to 12 years.

The Winfield Recreation Commission will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony when the playground is completed and ready for the community.
