Raymond Arthur Patterson, 72, of Winfield, passed away Saturday afternoon, Jan. 9, 2021 at his home.

Born Feb. 11, 1948, in Winfield, he was the son of Raymond Woodrow and Myrtle Irene (McKinnis) Patterson. He was educated in Winfield, Upton, Wyo., and Moorcroft, Wyo., where he graduated from high school. After high school, Ray enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served eight years. Only six months after his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Raymond decided to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps to serve his country for 12 more years, retiring in 1988.
Raymond met his wife, Gloria Jean Best, a day before he left for Marine Corps boot camp. The couple was married while he was stationed in Atoka, Tenn. Raymond and Gloria made their home wherever the military took them, including California and Louisiana. The couple settled in December 2009 in Winfield. Raymond spent his time hunting and fishing.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 45 years, Gloria Patterson, of Winfield; and two stepsons, Trevor Dierolf, of Colorado, and Christopher House, of Tennessee.
