Vada L. McDaniel, 74, of Derby, formerly of Arkansas City, passed away Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021 at the Kansas Medical Center in Andover.
Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23 at the North Mausoleum in Riverview Cemetery. Father Sam Brand will officiate. Those attending are required to follow all COVID-19 mandates, including the wearing of a mask and social distancing.

Vada was born Aug. 2, 1946, to Byron B. and Katherine M. (Robertson) Short in Wichita. She attended schools in Odessa, Texas, and Arkansas City, graduating from Arkansas City High School in 1964. After high school, she attended and graduated from Beauty School in Ponca City, Okla.
She married James Lee McDaniel on Sept. 12, 1988 in Wichita. The couple made their home in Arkansas City.
Vada was a wife and mother who loved caring for her family, and she was a proud, independent businesswoman of her time.
She enjoyed cross stitching and her dogs and cherished raising her grandchildren. She was a past member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Vada was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; and brothers, Merle Short and David Short.
Survivors include her daughter, Nicole McKinley, of Derby; son, Joe Norton, of Wichita; sister, Virginia Treadwell and husband, Paul, of Wichita; brother, Don Short, of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Bailley McKinley, of Wichita, and Easton Lee McKinley and Hayden McKinley, both of Derby.
