The Winfield girls cross country team finished third at the Class 4A State championships Saturday in Wamego, beating out nine other teams to claim a State medal.

Kayli Myers lead the team with a 15th place finish. Teammate GaceLynn Benavides was less than five seconds behind Myers and finished 17th. Both earned individual medals for finishing in the top 20.

The boys team placed ninth out of 12 teams. Viking Corbin Priest took the medal stand in 9th place overall out of 101 runners. 

In Class 5A competition in near Augusta, the Arkansas City boys team finished 10th out of 12 teams in its first trip to state in 20 years. Its top runner was Manuel Leos in 34th out of 104 runners.

Two Bulldog girls, both freshmen, qualified for state as individual runners. Jasmine Calvo finished 40th and Natalia Onelio was 89th.
