Lady Tigers pull away

The Cowley College women’s basketball team held Barton to 31% shooting Tuesday night to pick up the first conference win of the season with a 63-52 victory in W.S. Scott Auditorium.

The Lady Tigers (5-3, 1-2 Jayhawk D-II) held Barton to just 2-of-10 shooting in the first quarter and led 13-5 after the first 10 minutes of play.

Cowley’s lead grew to 27-9 on a basket by sophomore Martyna Kowalska.

The Lady Tigers led 33-21 at the end of the first half and again pushed their lead to 18 points, 43-25, on a basket by Shamara Henderson with 6:42 left in the third.

After the Lady Cougars (3-5, 0-2) pulled to within 47-36, Cowley scored the final four points of the quarter to lead 51-36.

Barton could not get closer than 11 points in the final quarter as the Lady Tigers snapped a three-game skid.

Sophomore Baylee Fincher scored nine of her game-high 17 points in the fourth quarter, while Henderson and Milena Fromming added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Mikaela Hall was the lone Barton player in double figures with 11 points.

The Lady Tigers play host to Northwest Kansas Tech at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The Lady Mavericks (2-4, 0-2), who have dropped four of their past five games, haven’t played since a 70-48 loss on Nov. 20 at Pratt.
