The Winfield High School boys basketball team was hoping to build off the momentum of last Friday’s near-upset at ranked McPherson.

Instead, the Vikings were unable to stop a two-headed monster Tuesday night at Ollie Thomas Gymnasium.

Drew Middleton and Luke McGinnis combined for 47 points to lead Towanda-Circle to a 71-52 victory in AV-CTL D-III action.

Circle’s dynamic duo offset a 26-point performance by Winfield junior Kyan Towles.

The Thunderbirds (2-4, 2-1 AV-CTL D-III) opened with a 21-point first quarter, led by three baskets from 3-point range from McGinnis, who finished with 23 points, and a pair of treys by Middleton, who had a team-high 24 points.

Towles dropped in a 3-pointer of his own in an eight-point first quarter for the Vikings (1-6, 1-3). He finished with three baskets from beyond the arc.

Circle led 35-20 at halftime.

Aidan Harper knocked down a pair of treys in a nine-point effort for the Vikings, who were 5 of 10 from the foul line.

Ty Smith added 11 points for the T-birds, who were 9 of 11 from the line.
