STERLING — The Southwestern College women’s basketball team played their second game in as many days on Saturday, falling to College of the Ozarks 92-60 at the Lonnie Kruse Classic.
The Lady Bobcats came out hot in the first quarter, shooting 50 percent from the field to build a 22-8 lead.
Southwestern stepped up in the second quarter, knocking down 50 percent (7 of 14). However, College of the Ozarks was 8 of 14 and led 48-30 at halftime.
The Lady Bobcats caught fire out of the intermission, shooting 60 percent in the third quarter (9 of 15), while holding the Lady Busters (1-5) to 10 points on 4-of-19 shooting.
Southwestern outscored the Lady Bobcats in the fourth quarter 20-19.
Denisha Anderson led the Lady Builders with 11 points. Kewaysha Alsup (10) and Sidney Dennis (10) also scored in double figures, combining to shoot 11 of 20.
Dennis nearly had a double-double with nine rebounds to go with three blocks.
After the two losses at the Lonnie Kruse Classic, the Lady Builders oen KCAC play at 3 p.m. Saturday at No. 18 Sterling.
Evangel 87, Southwestern 65
STERLING — The Lady Builders played Friday night at Evangel in the tourney opener, falling 87-65.
Fouls put the Lady Builders in trouble from the start, as Amanda Graddy picked up three fouls in the first quarter and Kewaysha Alsup picked up a pair.
The Lady Valor shot 12 of 14 from the foul lineto build a 38-33 lead at halftime. In the process, Graddy picked up her fourth foul in the second quarter and Katie Klimkowski added three personals.
Evangel scored the first 12 points of the fourth quarter, hitting 11 of 18 in the stanza while connecting on 10 of 13 from the line.Southwestern struggled to get anything going on offense, shooting 4 of 12.
Teresa Paige Urquhart led the Lady Builders with 15 points off the bench, hitting 9 of 11 from the line and 3 of 4 from the field. Atyanna Freeman added 10 points.
Sidney Dennis pulled down 11 rebounds for Southwestern.
