DODGE CITY — The Southwestern College women’s golf team finished a strong third Wednesday at the three-day KCAC Championships at Mariah Hills Golf Course.
It was the highest finish for the Lady Builders since a third-place finish in 2019.
Southwestern carded a three-day score of 1,011, three strokes better than Oklahoma Wesleyan. Bethany took the team title with a 947, 12 strokes ahead of runner-up Kansas Wesleyan.
Freshman Lauren Kelly turned in a fifth-place performance with a solid three-day 238.
Kelly opened with an 80 on Monday and led the entire leaderboard with a 77 on Tuesday before firing an 81 on Day 3 to finish with a 238, just one stroke from fourth place, six strokes from second place and nine strokes back of conference champion Ida Lihufvudh of Bethany (229).
Freshman Iommi Paulsen tied for 15th with a three-day 251.
Paulsen matched near-even rounds of 85 and 86 on the first two days before firing a splendid 80 on Day 3.
Sophomore Ashlee Johnson was one stroke behind, tied for 17th with a 252. She was even better on day three, firing a fifth-place 78 after opening with an 85 and an 89.
Freshman Jodi Kenner opened with a solid 85, but needed eight more strokes on Day 2 and a 92 on Day 3, finishing in a tie for 28th with a 270.
Junior Kylee Woffinden opened with a 99, but shot even rounds of 94 on the second and third days to sit 31st with a 287.
