The Southwestern College volleyball team competed in their first contest of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference slate Wednesday night against Ottawa and left Stewart Field House still in search of its first victory of the season, having been swept by Ottawa 25-13, 25-18, 25-14.
The Lady Builders (0-6, 0-1 KCAC) struggled from the outset, with an attack percentage a measly minus-.086 in the first set. The Lady Braves (5-5, 2-0) used a 12-2 run to pull away.
Southwestern looked much more competitive in the second set, improving to a .100 hitting percentage. The Lady Builders trailed just 11-9, but couldn’t keep close enough to threaten.
The third set saw the teams tied 11-11, but Ottawa ended the set with a 14-3 run to take the sweep.
Daci Stover led the Lady Builders in kills for the second straight match with seven. Faith Smith was the most efficient attacker with a .250 hitting percentage for three kills on 12 attempts with no errors.
Sierra Norlin dished up 13 assists and libero Sophia Wicker pulled up a team-high 16 digs.
The Lady Builders are off until a Sept. 28 match at 6 p.m. at Oklahoma Wesleyan. The Lady Eagles (5-5, 1-0) swept Southwestern on Sept. 18 in Winfield.
