WAMEGO — Winfield High School junior Kayli Myers finished sixth Saturday at the Wamego Invitational at the Wamego Country Club, the home of the KSHSAA Class 4A State Championships.

The Vikings took a small group of boys along with a full squad of Lady Vikings, who placed fourth as a team behind Eudora, Southeast of Saline and Baldwin.

Myers completed the 5K course in 20 minutes, 57.5 seconds, a bit more than three seconds behind fourth-place Sydney Owens of Eudora (20:54.2).

The only runner to clear 20 minutes, Jentrie Alderson of Southeast of Saline won the individual title in 18:51.9.

Winfield junior Gracelynn Benavides finished in 21:45.1 to place 14th.

WHS sophomore Skylar Flower placed 26th (22:30.4), while sophomore Lauryn Turner was 47th (23:11.9). 

Freshman Lydia Nelson cracked the top 60 (23:56.4) and sophomore Brooke Brogan cracked the top 90 (25:51.2).

Junior Corban Priest had the top finish for the Winfield boys, placing 22nd in 17:41.7.

Freshman Heath Reed was 58th (19:14.4), sophomore Jaden Brown was 96th (21:20.8) and senior David Koller was 99th (21:32.5).
