TONKAWA, Okla. — One week after holding NOC-Tonkawa to 54 points in a home win, the Cowley College women’s basketball team allowed a season-high 87 points Wednesday in an 87-74 loss.

The Lady Tigers (4-1) led 16-14 at the end of the first quarter before NOC scored the first eight points of the second quarter to go in front 22-16. Cowley went back in front 38-37 after a driving layup by sophomore Milena Fromming in the closing seconds of the first half.

The score was tied 46-46 following a 3-pointer by Cowley sophomore Baylee Fincher. However, the Lady Mavericks (3-2) went on to outscore Cowley 18-11 to take a 64-57 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Tigers remained down seven (74-67) before NOC-Tonkawa closed the game on a 13-7 run.

“We just did not play very well,” Cowley coach Todd Clark said. “We were very lethargic. Some of that is poor scheduling, but we have to show up. I have to give a lot of credit to NOC-Tonkawa.”

The Lady Mavericks, who had five players score in double figures, were led by Jordan Holman’s 24 points and seven rebounds. Fincher led Cowley with 22 points, while Shamara Henderson and freshman Lexi Rose added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

After five games in 10 days, the Lady Tigers have some time off before hosting conference-rival Coffeyville at 5:30 p.m. next Wednesday.

“We have to bounce back and get ready for conference play,” Clark said.
